Pleasing the TeenagerIt’s a lot of fun to decorate a room for a baby or a little child. But what happens when your adorable four year old grows up to be a temperamental fourteen year old? The cute pink or blue walls might not work anymore, and the metal bunk beds that they so loved are out of date. How can you decorate a room for a teenager that keeps everyone happy? Ditch The Wall Colors Teens spend a good majority of their time in their room, so you will want it to be a place that they enjoy spending time in, whether they are in their bedroom furniture or not! The first quick way to update your teen’s room is to change the color on the wall. Make it something interesting. For teens that like dark colors, go for a dark brown or red. For teens that like lighter colors, look for a light yellow or even an orange. Make sure that they are with you 100%, because there’s no point in redoing a room that your teen is going to hate. You can even be creative and look up techniques to make the walls look like an old pair of jeans. Say “Buh-Bye” to the Furniture If your teen is still sleeping on metal bunk beds, you may want to have a discussion with them. Chances are they don’t care for the bunk bed anymore and want something a little more spacious. If the room allows for it, look for a full sized bed from a company like the Hillsdale Furniture. It doesn’t have to be extremely ornate. It can be a simple, slat-style bed or one that has a headboard but no foot board. Again, make sure that you choose something that attracts your teen. If they are into nature and animals, head for the wood beds. If they are into sci-fi and robots look to the metal bed frames. Either of these frame can make a great bed for a teenager, it just depends on what look you are going for in the room. New “Accessories” Once you’ve got the room painted and the bed chosen, it’s time to accessorize. If you are decorating for a teenage girl, she is going to enjoy herself immensely. Even a teenage boy can get into picking out what type of bureau or side table he likes. Let your teen choose what they like for in contemporary bedroom furniture, even if it seems to clash with the bed that they have picked out. Teens have a very unique taste, and they may surprise you with what the finished product looks like. If there is enough room in the bedroom, you may also want to look for a desk. There are desks available in all sizes, and it is the perfect solution for a teen that likes to hibernate in their room, especially if they have a computer. Teens are fickle indeed, but with a little bit of creativity and a lot of communication, you can build a room that is appealing to everyone!
