Beautify Your Home
Friday, May 8, 2009

Whether you’re looking to build kids storage beds or a wooden storage beds of your own, if you have the right tools and materials, it could be a cheap alternative to buying a brand new one. It might be a tough decision though, as making your own can be difficult – especially if you aren’t familiar with woodworking or not much of a do-it-yourself kind of person.

Contemporary storage beds have the look of modern platform beds, but with the added surprise of extra room for clothing, bedding, or other items that don’t have a proper place in your home. Building your own can be a bit tricky because of the drawers, but if you happen to get your hands on old kitchen cabinets, you already have an extra advantage. You can reuse them to meet your needs as you construct the frame of the bed.

Even so, though, building your own wooden storage bed will take some patience, skill, tools, and know how. You will have to build an entire frame similar to a platform bed in order to get the drawers to work. Currently owning a metal bed frame can make this very difficult. In fact, you might be better off looking at wooden platform beds by manufactures such as Prepac Furniture. Of course, if you find yourself considering the purchase of a high-end platform bed, you may as well consider buying an already made storage bed. Though it won’t be as cheap as making your own, it will be a lot more appealing and last a good deal longer than anything made with old kitchen cabinets.
