Janice Sleigh Bed
My sister was recently redecorating my niece’s bedroom. My niece had grown out of her childhood phase and was ready for something sleek, stylish, and mature. They had trouble agreeing on a bed. That is when they decided to call me for help. I asked my sister and my niece what their specifications were. They both said that they were envisioning a metal bed. Dynasty Bed With Frame
Purchasing a new house with my new wife was the easy part. Furnishing it was a whole different story. What Kind of Bed Did Caesar Use?Are you into the history of fashion and design, or do you have curiosities regarding technology from the past? If so, you may have interesting questions pop randomly into mind from time to time. Apparently, today, you thought about the history of the bed and what was perhaps available or common in Roman times. Specifically, you were looking at your platform bed and wondering if platform beds were available during Roman times and, if so, was this what Caesar used?
In truth, the beds at the time were not like modern platform beds, but the concept was similar. In a peasant’s home, it would be planks upon which the residents slept. However, Caesar’s bed was more likely a platform made from a metallic material. Some may assume gold or silver, but more likely there was iron involved, perhaps with some wood. It may have been plated in a finer metal in order to obtain a richer appearance.
Something else that was common at the time was loft beds, which were formed much the same as a platform bed but were raised, as if on stilts. It was believed at the time that this would help to keep bedbugs and other pests out of the linens and away from the mattress stuffing, which tended to be feathers or straw, depending on how well to do you were. Caesar most likely slept on mattresses and pillows stuffed with feathers and down, the softest material available. Of course, he must not have kept his bed as clean and sanitary as one would hope, since Cleopatra opted to go for another man!
