Create a Focal Wall

Comforter Set

When you need a bit of drama, contrast, or simply something different, try a focal wall.  Very similar to an accent wall, a focal wall places the emphasis on one wall; instead of painting it a contrasting color, you stencil it with a creative pattern.  This creates a gorgeous focal point, and the rest of your décor can be very simple and clean like your comforter sets.  It is an effective way to create contrast and interest in a particular area.  Start by creating a stencil or finding one you like online or in a store.

Prepare the wall, whether by cleaning it or putting on a fresh coat of paint.  From there, tape the stencil to the wall with painters’ tape and begin your stenciling.  Use a brush and dip the ends into your paint.  Dab the bristles on a paper towel to remove excess and then work on your stencil.  This “dry brush method” creates a more subtle effect.  You can also dab paint right onto the stencil, but don’t brush it.  If you do, the paint will seep underneath the stencil and you won’t have sharp, clear lines.  Move your stencil to the next space  and continue this process until your focal wall is done.
