Creating a Truly Clean Living Space

It’s no secret that there has been a new movement in recent years that has homeowners looking for the best ways to reduce their negative impact on the environment and also seeking a healthier lifestyle.  Among the many ways that individuals, couples, and gorganizations are accomplishing this is through the use of “green” furniture.

In a recent article at the Kitchen and Bath News website about bathroom design trends, there was a large section devoted to earth-friendly tendencies, showing just how huge this phenomenon has become in the past decade, but it also points out the fact that limited budgets are making it more difficult for consumers to follow through with “green” initiatives.  Yet, there are ways to get good quality, eco-friendly bedroom furniture, organic mattresses, and household fixtures on a fixed budget.

Cushions stuffed with down and feathers rather than man-made foams and organic mattresses made of natural elements can improve the health of household members.  It also lessens the impact on the environment when those products have reached the end of their lifetime.  It’s not just the larger elements of the household that can play a part in cleaner indoor air.  Paint for the wall, area rugs, throw pillows, lamps, and other decorative elements can be found in eco-friendly varieties.  Paints will have reduced odors.  Lamps and other manufactured items are often crafted of found, antique elements.  Antique items are often less damaging to air quality because they didn’t use the same types of glue and fabricated pieces in past decades.

For those who are making these improvements in order to enrich the quality of air for children, it is important to understand that the whole home must be addressed.  An article by U.S. News states that household mold can actually drastically increase the chances of a child developing asthma later in life.  We have all heard reports stating that allergies and asthma rates have gone up substantially in the past few decades.  It makes sense to have the household inspected for mold, mildew, and other issues while updating furniture and fixtures.
